Gun Dog Training

My training methods….

All of my dogs, regardless of their breed, are involved in the rearing duties for the shoot, and I have successfully worked several non-Gun Dog breeds in the shooting field.

As a trainer, I employ positive reward based methods, these methods allow the dog to learn faster and have fun whilst learning.

Positive reward based training is enjoyable for the dog and enhances the relationship between the dog and handler.

Any Breed

A well trained dog is a pleasure to share time with; whether it is intended as a working gundog, a family pet, or a companion to share walks in the countryside.

Gundog training is not exclusive to the typical Gundog breeds, any breed of dog can enjoy and benefit from this type of training.

A dog which is well behaved around wildlife is a pleasure to own, whilst an unreliable dog around wildlife can be your worst nightmare.

Locations

Venues across South Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.

Training Approach

How do we achieve this when Gundog training can seem an overwhelming task?

Reward based

The answer is positive, reward based training carried out consistently and broken down in to the basic elements to allow your dog to successfully understand what is required of him.

Exercises

The basic exercises we need to train are:

Heel work on and off lead, the Sit, the Recall, the Down, the Wait, the Stay, Retrieve, the Stop, directions to move right, left and back as directed by hand signal and/or whistle command.

All of the exercises are trained using both voice and whistle commands. This is to ensure that the dog can hear the command regardless of distance or weather conditions.

The emphasis of my training is steadiness and obedience which is the foundation for a good working partnership between dog and handler.
