In the beginning
As a child, I was lucky enough to grow up with Spaniels and terriers. I was also a pony mad little girl, and the dogs and ponies were the center of my young world.
I developed an interest in training animals from a young age, and through the inquisitive mentality which I still possess, this allowed me to explore the psychology of training animals.
My Life
I spent 20 years working in the Horse world in various guises, but always maintained an interest in training and competing dogs in obedience, working trials and in the shooting field.
In recent years, I have been fortunate to be able to dedicate more of my time to the training, competition and general enjoyment of my own and other people’s dogs.
I have, during my adult life, been lucky enough to own a variety of breeds of dogs, including a Doberman, terriers, Spaniels, Crossbreeds and Border collies.
My dogs
All of my dogs, regardless of their breed, are involved in the rearing duties for the shoot, and I have successfully worked several non-Gun Dog breeds in the shooting field.
My Training Ethos
As a trainer, I employ positive reward based methods, these methods allow the dog to learn faster and have fun whilst learning.
Positive reward based training is enjoyable for the dog and enhances the relationship between the dog and handler.
Kennel club obedience competition judge
I have successfully competed all of my dogs in the sport of Competitive Obedience through to Championship level and regularly judge at Open and Championship Obedience shows in the UK and Europe.
Not just a trainer
Some years ago I was given the opportunity to become involved in a local syndicate shoot.
I now, along with my dogs, assist in all of the activities required, from feeding and rearing the birds in the off season, joining the beating line with my own dogs and picking up duties, both at our own shoot and others to which we are invited.
